YES, WE DID.

i'm excited ♥
maybe i'm exaggerating the effects of last night's events too much....
but i can't help but take on a marxist perspective in all this.
last night a MOVEMENT took place.

A SOCIAL MOVEMENT.
maybe it wasn't militaristic in nature...
&& maybe it was non-violent...
but nonetheless IT WAS THERE.
with every fuckin person who waited HOURS to cast their ballot
with every person who became a US CITIZEN just so they could vote
with every person who voted who had NEVER in their life voted b4
&& best of all...
with every young person who FINALLY came out AND ROCKED THAT SHIT!
everything marx said about the proletariat and the working class is coming true
AMERICANS ARE TIRED.
tired of the same politics.
tired of gas prices.
tired of having to work 2 JOBS just to stay alive
tired of having a government support the SAME tired ol' capitalistic bullshit
&&& most of all,
TIRED OF BEING ON OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE SPECTRUM!
OUR NATION HAS BECOME SO FUCKING POLARIZED.
[red states vs. blue states ,democrat vs. republican, gay vs. straight, black vs. white, disabled vs. non disabled, pro-choice vs, pro-life]
that during these past 8 years, we have forgotten that we are all HUMAN
and we all live in the SAME FUCKING COUNTRY.

OBAMA WON LAST NIGHT BECAUSE PPL WANT CHANGE.
we want that feeling of unity that was present after 9/11
&& he was the ONLY candidate that TRULY stood for that change.
but dont gimme wrong....
i'm not expecting obama to completely change US politics as we know it
i'm not expecting a handout
&& im not expecting that the racism, sexism, and the other discriminatory attitudes that challenged him will be silenced.
obama is a great leader, but he's not GOD
&& his job description will only require him to provide about 25% of the real change this country needs
the rest of it needs to come from US.
we need to get off our asses and PROVE ourselves now
not only to each other, but to the WORLD.

PROVE THAT WE ARE SMART ENOUGH TO MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS.
PROVE THAT WE ARE HARD WORKING ENOUGH TO CREATE CHANGE.
AND PROVE THAT WE ARE A NATION FULL OF PEOPLE WHO GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE BASIC DIGNITY AND SANCTITY OF HUMAN RIGHTS.

electing obama was a tremendous step in the right direction
but WE, as a country, need to keep this momentum going
yes, we FINALLY made the right decision last night
but a lot of work still needs to be done
for example, in california alone...
CHICKENS NOW HAVE MORE RIGHTS THAN GAY COUPLES,
our criminal justice system remains flawed and inefficient,
&& our youth drug addicts still have nowhere to turn to for treatment
this is why last night was bittersweet for me.
i saw progress....
but i also saw some of the same attitudes that have carried this country into the shithole we all refer to now as the past 8 years.
like tupac [who only DREAMED last night would someday happen] said...
"LET'S CHANGE THE WAY WE LIVE
AND LET'S CHANGE THE WAY WE TREAT EACH OTHER"

how long are we going let the same conservative, traditional ass, closed-minded views of our grandparents dictate our laws and govt policies?
what is it going to take for us to change THAT?
i hope it will take someone who can continue to inspire us to be better
TO THINK FOR OURSELVES
&& if ur not lucky enough to have that person b a relative, friend, or peer...
then hopefully that someone, for you, will be barack obama.
i'm excited to think that it will be.
&& i'm even more excited to think of all the respect that WE
AS A NATION...
have all earned from countries ALL OVER THE WORLD.
simply by electing our first african american president
IT SHOWS THAT WE HAVE CHANGED OUR OLD WAY OF THINKING.
& not only that...
but it shows that we do not agree with the politics of the past 8 years
it shows that we are clinging to hope&& want something better for our future
i'm optimistic that the WORLD will be a better place now...
that we will end the cuban blockade
that great leaders like hugo chavez and evo morales will become our allies
and that the US will no longer punish countries and individuals who oppose our capitalistic interests
yeah, its only a dream....
my dream.
but i have hope now...
not only in my future president,
but hope in my fellow americans
that now, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS....
REAL progress will be made =]
